Strengthening FCTC Implementation in Mexico

The aim of this project is to strengthen federal and state tobacco control laws and policies to conform to the obligations and recommendations of the WHO FCTC. It will promote support for and facilitate the adoption of strengthened policies to ensure 100% smoke free environments, prohibition of tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship. It will also promote amendments to increase the size of health warnings and an increase in the federal excise tax on tobacco as well as developing a legal case for establishment of taxes by local states.

Assessing and increasing the effectiveness of cigarette pack warnings in Mexico

The project aims to promote the effective use of health warning labels (HWLs) to combat tobacco use in Mexico. It will recommend the most effective HWL content to decision makers based on scientific evidence and field experiments. It will also disseminate information on post-market impact of pictorial HWLs to promote stronger HWL policy. It will conduct field experiments to assess HWLs with greatest impact, estimate the impact of HWLs and deliver reports to key decision makers and advocates with results and recommendations.

Tobacco smoke free surveillance reinforcement program in Tabasco State

The aim of this project is to strengthen and sustain the operational structure for and the evaluation of surveillance for effective implementation of the smoke free legislation in Tabasco state. The project will strengthen and increase the human and material resources that allow verification operations in order to carry out a thorough surveillance program of law compliance. It will develop and run the technical and operational tools and procedures to create information and monitoring systems for the evaluation of the inspections program.
