Building the capacity of public health systems in Indonesia to implement effective tobacco control

The aim of this project is to support national tobacco control policy development, adoption, implementation, monitoring and evaluation by strengthening the health system at the national and sub-national level. The project will work with stakeholders to support implementation of Health Law 2009 and strengthen health systems and policy through development and dissemination of guidelines on smoke free policy and graphic health warning and labelling. While continuing to provide continued support for implementation of 100% smoke free policy in 3 provinces it will expand these efforts to an additional 5 provinces. The project will strengthen the existing Mayors Alliance through provision of informational and advocacy tools, consultation visits and structured meetings of Mayors.

The aim of this project is to contribute to the development of a national tobacco control law. It will support the government in the policy making process of FCTC accession and the subsequent adoption of a comprehensive national tobacco control law. Towards this end the project will conduct high level policy advocacy on these issues with the government, with emphasis on pictorial health warnings and smoke free policy. It will continue to strengthen the tobacco control network at both national and sub-national level, build and strengthen the evidence-base on tobacco control in Indonesia. The project will also provide technical support for 100% smoke free policy implementation in Pontianak City.

The project aims to support implementation of the provincial smoke-free perda in all regions of Bali in an effort to protect children and adolescents from the dangers of exposure to second hand smoke.
