Implementing the New Tobacco Control Legislation in Lebanon

Supporting and monitoring effective implementation of tobacco control legislation and promoting tobacco taxation and continually sustain the national program.
Lebanese Ministry of Health
This project aims to continue support for the implementation and monitoring of the newly passed national tobacco control legislation in collaboration with related Ministries, NGOs, academia and media. It will increase capacity for implementation and enforcement of the smoke free provisions, coordinate a Ministerial action to enforce the Tobacco Advertising, Promotion and Sponsorship ban, work towards implementation of the 40% health warning and advocate for pictorial health warnings. It will also work on development and maintenance of a monitoring system for implementation. The project will work to minimize the influence of tobacco industry interference in opposing the new legislation and its effective implementation.

Promote the passage of the drafting TC policies consistent with the FCTC and effective strengthening of the national TC program

The project aims to advocate for the enactment and enforcement of national tobacco control legislation consistent with the FCTC. It will focus on amendments relating to health warnings, tobacco advertising and smokefree public places. It also aims to achieve a strong and sustainable tobacco control programme at the MOPH.
