A global program to reduce tobacco use in low- and middle-income countries was launched in 2006 with funds from Bloomberg Philanthropies. A competitively awarded grants program is an important part of the Program. The grants program supports projects to develop and deliver high-impact tobacco control interventions.
The grants program is managed by the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
Applications for Round 5 Project Ideas are now closed and applicants have been notified.
The Call for Proposals for Round 6 will be launched on July 6, 2009.
Proposals must focus on achieving policy change that will lead to substantial reductions in tobacco use.
- Tax and price measures, including anti-smuggling measures
- Establishment of smoke-free workplaces and public places, and effective enforcement of smoke-free policies
- Direct and indirect advertising bans and effective enforcement of direct and indirect advertising bans
- Other evidence-based regulatory/legislative initiatives1
- Round Four: 15 Proposals Approved
Selection in Round Four of the Grants Program is now complete. At its December meeting, the Grants Review Committee recommended 15 proposals for funding. Successful applicants now enter negotiations aimed at finalising a grant agreement.
